As we headed from Portrush through County Donegal, Ireland we noticed that the road signs changed. The western County Donegal is in the Gaeltacht, where locals speak the Irish (Gaelic) language. The entire of Ireland (the Republic, not Northern Ireland which is part of the UK) writes and speaks English and Gaelic. The other thing to note is that the distances change from "miles" in the UK to "kilometers" in Ireland.
In County Donegal, we visited Glenveagh Castle and National Park.

Glenveagh Castle was originally built as a victorian style hunting estate. |

The castle was built along Lough (Lake) Veagh which is a three-mile long lake occupying a valley in the Derryveagh mountains. |

The walled garden is beautiful. |

This garden requires constant care and there were three staff working away in the garden while we were there. |

The head gardener's cottage (not a bad compensation benefit). |

Beautiful blooms |

If you look closely you will see a "cheeky" little bird on the lowest branch of the tree. |
