Westport, Ireland to Doolin

When we left Donegal County we headed to Westport which is a small seaside town in County Mayo.  County Mayo is the birthplace of the O'Malleys, which is Kathy's maternal grandfather's family.  We stayed in a cute B&B there with a river right outside our window.  See photos below.

This is the door to the car park at the B & B.

This river was right outside our room window

We drove through County Mayo to County Clare and  passed villages with thatched roof homes and beautiful countryside.

At one point our GPS system took us on a scenic route over back country roads.  This is representative of one of the one-car width country roads with rock walls on both sides.  What is really exciting is when you come across another car, or better yet, a truck or tractor coming in the other direction.  There really are no turnouts so sometimes it just comes down to a game of chicken.

Just another castle alongside the road.  Note the swans in the water.
